MAJULI ISLAND, Assam [P.C Gourab Das]

Majuli is a river island in the Brahmaputra River, Assam, India and the 1st island district of the country. It is recognised by Guinness Book of World Records as World's Largest River Island. The island had an area of 352 square kilometres (136 sq mi) in 2014.

Nohkalikai Falls, CHERRAPUNJI, Meghalaya [P.C NEELIMA]

Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Its height is 1115 feet, making it as the highest waterfall in India. The waterfall is located near Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. Cherrapunji is a subdivisional town in the East Khasi Hills district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. Cherrapunji has oft been credited as being the wettest place on Earth, but for now, nearby Mawsynram holds that distinction. But it still holds the all-time record for the most rainfall in a calendar month and in a year, however: it received 9,300 millimetres (370 in; 30.5 ft) in July 1861 and 26,461 millimetres (1,041.8 in; 86.814 ft) between 1 August 1860 and 31 July 1861.

It is located 181 km from the city of Guwahati, Assam. To get to Cherrapunji town, you can hire taxis from Paltan Bazaar bus stand in Guwahati or get a pre-paid taxi from the airport itself. Technically, the Umroi Airport (91 km) near Shillong is the nearest airport to Cherrapunji. However, the airport receives flights from Kolkata only and that too, with very low frequency.

LIVING ROOT BRIDGES, Khasi and Jaintia Hills, Megahalaya [P.C: NEELIMA]

Living root bridges are a form of tree shaping common in the southern part of the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. They are handmade from the aerial roots of Rubber Trees (Ficus elastica) by the Khasi and Jaintia peoples of the mountainous terrain along the southern part of the Shillong Plateau.
